Internet Piracy: Unauthorized
Internet piracy is a form of theft. It is copying of intellectual property in an unauthorized way. It is a major problem for the entertainment and software industries, and usually involves violations of copyright law. Copyright is a legal right that protects creative works from being reproduced, performed, or disseminated without permission of the copyright owner. Essentially, a copyright gives its owner the exclusive right to make copies of the material in question
From the March 2012 issue of Magic Numbers, survey result shows that Movies and Music (at both 44%) are the top when it comes to illegal downloading. Followed by TV shows (31%), Softwares (24%), VideoGames (15%) and Books and Magazine (14%).
The respondents of the survey at 75% also believe that people who download illegally should not be brought to justice at a contradicting 25% in favor of the bringing these people to justice.
When asked if they think illegal downloading will ever be stopped, majority at 54% answered that this activity will “Never” be stopped.
With the plan of implementing Anti-Piracy laws such as PIPA (Protect IP Act), 77% didn’t agree of implementing such, with the Canadians at 86% opposes the most.
